March 21, 2008 - The Mitchell County Democratic Central Committee voted un-animously at their regular meeting in March to endorse Kurt Meyer for Congress and accompanied their endorsement with a $500 campaign contribution. Kurt is seeking to become the Democratic nominee to oppose Tom Latham in the fall.
Born and raised in Mitchell County, Meyer graduated from St. Ansgar High School and now lives in the northern part of the county where his family has lived for over 150 years. Said Democratic County Chair, Jeannette Armstrong, "We are very pleased to endorse Kurt Meyer for two reasons: first, we think he is by far the strongest candidate to oppose Tom Latham in the fall and second, because he is our friend and neighbor. Kurt has built a strong campaign organization, he has raised money and he is demonstrating he can run the kind of energetic campaign necessary to defeat Latham."
Long-time activist and Democratic fund-raiser Betty McCarthy was there to help present the check to Kurt. McCarthy has been raising money for Mitchell county Democrats for over 35 years and she said, "One of the great pleasures of raising money is giving it to worthy candidates like Kurt Meyer. I have known Kurt since he was a high school student active in local Democratic politics and am confident he can beat the incumbent in the fall."
Meyer said, "I am very pleased to receive the support and endorsement of Democrats in my home county. I will do everything possible throughout this campaign - and, if I'm fortunate enough, throughout my time in office - to be worthy of these generous expressions of support."
